Nature Valley Grand Prix reshuffles the deck

Full Results

Strong performances by Katharine Carroll (Aaron's) and Catherine Cheatley (Cheerwine Cycling), along with The absence of Alex Wrubleski (Webcor Builders), who was sidelined with a knee injury, have dramatically rearranged the standing of the 2008 Women’s Prestige Cycling Series following the Nature Valley Grand Prix.

Individual Standings – Carroll performed consistently throughout the Nature Valley Grand Prix, earning her a second place behind a dominating Kristin Armstrong (Cervelo – Lifeforce) in the general classification. This performance moved Carroll from third after the Redlands Classic into the Series lead. Hot on her heals are Cheerwine team mates Leigh Hobson and Anne Samplonius while Wrubleski dropped to fourth.

1 - 297 - Katharine Carroll (Aaron's)
2 - 231 - Leigh Hobson (Cheerwine)
3 - 220 - Anne Samplonius (Cheerwine)
4 - 220 - Alex Wrubleski (Webcor Builders)
5 - 121 - Joanne Kiesanowski (Team TIBCO)

Best Young Rider – New Zealander Catherine Cheatley (Cheerwine Cycling) claimed the BOOST Best Young Rider jersey at the Nature Valley Grand Prix, moving her into a tie with Wrubleski for the Series Best Young Rider classification. The tie was broken in Cheatley’s favor because of her results at the Nature Valley GP. Webcor team mates Amy Dombroski and Rebecca Much remain within easy striking distance of both Cheatley and Wrubleski.

1 - 220 - Catherine Cheatley (Cheerwine Cycling)
2 - 220 - Alex Wrubleski (Webcor Builders)
3 - 209 - Amy Dombroski (Webcor Builders)
4 - 198 - Rebecca Much (Webcor Builders)
5 - 165 - Lauren Franges (Team TIBCO)

Sprinter – Although Joanne Kiesanowski (Team TIBCO) claimed the Wheaties Sprint jersey at the Nature Valley Grand Prix, Carroll moved into the lead thanks to points that she had earned at Redlands, a race that Kiesanowski had missed. Wrubleski dropped to third followed by Cheerwine team mates Samplonius and Hobson.

1 - 264 - Katharine Carroll (Aaron's)
2 - 220 - Joanne Kiesanowski (Team TIBCO)
3 - 220 - Alex Wrubleski (Webcor Builders)
4 - 198 - Anne Samplonius (Cheerwine)
5 - 157 - Leigh Hobson (Cheerwine)

Team Standing – Webcor’s expected stranglehold on the Series team competition evaporated at the Nature Valley Grand Prix. Webcor only scored 20 points, despite the presence of 2008 Geelong World Cup winner Katherine Curi Mattis and a roster that seemed set to score bonus points that the Series awards to U26 riders. Strong performances by multiple riders pushed Cheerwine into first followed closely be Aarons, with Webcor falling to third.

1 - 676 - Cheerwine Cycling
2 - 638 - Aaron's Women's Pro Cyclng
3 - 592 - Webcor Builders Cycling Team
4 - 439 - Colavita/Sutter
5 - 251 - Team TIBCO

The Women’s Prestige Cycling Series began at the Redlands Bicycle Classic. Following the Nature Valley Grand Prix, it will conclude at the Presbyterian Hospital Invitational on August 2.

About the Women’s Prestige Cycling Series

The Women’s Prestige Cycling Series began in 2004 with the goal of highlighting women’s racing by giving them a spotlight that they don’t have to share with the men. The Series grew out of meetings that began in Minnesota in 2003 at the first Women’s Cycling Summit Conference hosted at the Nature Valley Grand Prix. The Summit, now sponsored by Rasmussen College, takes place at the Nature Valley Grand Prix every June.
